"I Love Today"

Hello from the Zoo!

From the zoo, you might say, and yes you read that correctly, 3/4 of room 852 decided to take a long journey to the end of Metro 1 to none other than the Budapest Zoo. Now, you may ask who would go to the zoo in the winter, and the answer to that question is the three of us, three other brave oles, and a few other Hungarians and British tourists. The other 1/4 of our group was shown in yesterdays blog in Vienna.

While at Zoo-dapest (the grand name Liv or Grace came up with, we don't remember who), we saw a lot of things. Here is the sign that we saw when entering the Zoo. We were very excited to see what the "Amerika" portion entailed.

Now, we will take you on a journey, as we did today, through the Zoo. First, we saw some penguins. We were very excited about these penguins, because they were the first exotic animals we had come into contact with in the past month, but unfortunately, they were too fast to take a picture of. If you want any blurry pictures of penguins, contact Liv. Then we went to lake called "The Great Lake" and followed it around until we saw these fun birds!

(we named the second bird Kevin.) We then decided to travel around the world through the exhibits. We began in Australia, where we saw these friends.

After Australia, we went to America! While back in America we saw some sloths, some fish, some alligators, some seals, some owls, and some small monkeys. Here are some pictures of them.

After going back to America, we then traveled to Alaska...yes, we know Alaska is in America, but the polar bears had a different exhibit. Here is a picture of one of them biting a rope.

After befriending polar bears, we went to Monkey World where we saw lemurs, baby monkeys, and other monkey-like-creatures.

Then, we went and saw some aquatic friends, like turtles, fish and other sea creatures. Here is a stack of turtles!

Next, we went to the Savannah so Ansley could see a giraffe for the first time. It was a little sad in this exhibit because the larger animals, like elephants and rhinos, who are used to warm temperatures so they weren't outside in the snow, had to be in small enclosures by themselves. We saw the areas that they lived in during the summer, and that was reassuring to see that they had an area spacious enough and outdoors for them during the regular season. Here is a picture of the first giraffe Ansley has ever seen in person.

We went a few other places in the zoo, including a farm exhibit, and to see the gorillas and the orangoutangs, who were very fun to watch (not in the farm exhibit).

There is an overview of what we did with our day today! We ended our excursion with a trip to an Italian place that we have gone to a few times.

If you're ever in Budapest, would recommend going to the zoo so you can see what they're like in other countries. We were surprised with seeing rabbits in a zoo.

Check in tomorrow for another update on your favorite St. Olaf off-campus group!

Viszlát,

Liv, Ansley, Grace, and Qian
