Day 5

Sziasztok from Aaron, Brenden, Paul, and Tor! (the final, and just as exciting, group of roommates here at Budapest)

Today we had another day of morning Hungarian and afternoon number theory. For Hungarian, we learned how to count in Hungarian, which was useful for the next class ;) We also sang a Hungarian children's tune entitled "Olvadas.". It was very bouncy and had some fun wordplay. We couldn't find the exact arrangement on YouTube, but hopefully this interesting, one-man interpretation satiates your curiosity: https://youtu.be/PXg0LQZ_AWs.

As for number theory, we learned about the Euclidean Algorithm. If you want to learn more, here's the Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euclidean_algorithm

So far, our posts have all been talking about what delicious restaurant food we've been eating, but our room has actually cooked our own dinner twice already! We had chicken quesadillas on Sunday and chicken stir fry on Monday. Although it's unreasonably hard to find the right ingredients in the Hungarian ALDI, and although we've had to work through some cooking challenges (even setting off our room's smoke detector at one point), digging into our own creations at the end have been quite worth it.

But at any rate, eating at Budapest really saves the wallet for us Americans. The dinner some of us ate at tonight, pictured below, was rather good sized (some of us couldn't finish it), but it only cost about 7 U.S. dollars. It was an Indian dish called sabdji, which seemed to be a sort of potato/vegetable curry.

Meanwhile, one of our roommates, Paul, traveled on the tram to his professor dinner (the dinner that Kendall went to yesterday), and Paul was taken aback by how scenic even that little trip was.

Even though its just transportation linking the north and south of Budapest, it's quite telling how what would just be a mundane trip along the river reveals how beautiful the city is--especially at night with the churches, bridges, and the castle across the river (seen in the top picture) all lit up.

That about does it for today! It seems like we're settling into a good routine at this point, and hopefully all of us are over the jet lag now so that we can tackle the many adventures still before us!
